rcoles Posted September 28, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 28, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) My Leica X2 was not focusing consistently, and the spring clip that holds the battery in place had broken. I also needed a replacement lens collar and lens cap; mine were lost in a move. I shipped the camera to Tamarkin in Chicago who offers a service that manages the Leica repair process for customers. They advised me on 8/14 they had received the camera and would keep me posted on the process and would send the estimate once they received it from Leica. They also indicated it might take three months. On 9/22, Tamarkin emailed that the camera was back from Leica, and there was no charge. They shipped it the same day, and I received it on 9/25. It was fixed and it looked almost new. So, it took only 5-weeks, repaired and cleaned and at no cost other than shipping it to Chicago. Thanks to both Leica and Tamarkin for a job well done.
Advertisement Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 Hi rcoles, Take a look here My first experience with Leica Service in NJ.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
AlanJW Posted September 29, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 29, 2014 My last experience with Leica NJ was similar, though about 18 months ago. Because I am less than an hour from Leica NJ, I decided to bring my M9 in myself. It had stubborn dirt (or something) on the sensor, and I thought it best that they cleaned it rather than my continuing failed efforts. I was hoping they could clean it right there while I waited. Alas that was not to be because while I was there they detected something wrong with the sensor and told me it had to be replaced. I brought it in at the end of November and had it back by the end of December. The original estimate was mid January because of the holidays, but they beat that. No charges, and the people at Leica NJ were extremely courteous and understanding throughout.
bocaburger Posted September 29, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) Leica NJ tries their best. Sometimes they get overloaded, sometimes things must go to Germany and are thus out of their hands, and sometimes stuff happens just because they're humans after all. I miss Nils though, he was a most entertaining character. And of course Christian, who was a great friend and asset to the society, as was Justin who contributed his skills and experience on many a shoot. GarySHough Posted September 30, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 30, 2014 All SM bodies go to Germany for repair. Through our member discount program, I have sent and received back 2 SM mostly rebuilt, and currently a iiic is in Germany for repair/recondition. It sometimes takes awhile, but they return like new. GlennB Posted October 16, 2014 Share #7 Posted October 16, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have always had great results and a great experience when sending something in for repair to Leica NJ. My hat is off to them. My only problem is that as I get older, some of the people there that I have formed relationships with retire or move on. I miss that dialog with a familiar voice over the phone. Oh well, such is life. Here's to hoping to make new friends as the times change
sblitz Posted October 17, 2014 Share #8 Posted October 17, 2014 +1 nothing but praise for a friendly, professional and efficient group. It isn't always perfect, life isn't perfect, but they work hard at getting it done right within the least amount of time and that is about all one can ask for aside from pleasant people, and they are that as well.
