Photokina - All Very Quiet

With only about 5 weeks to go before Photokina, it seems very quiet here.

Previously, there has been feverish speculation, never more so than before the launch of the M8 in 2006 when we were counting the days. Maybe now we just go with the flow knowing that once the dust has settled, nothing much will have changed.

Still, we know about the two new T lenses, the new S lens and the (likely) 28mm Summilux-M ASPH.

Anyone got a view on what else there might be?

I can't say that I need anything - I'm quite happy with my kit as it is - but it will be very exciting to see what comes. Leica's pavilion at the 2012 photokina was pretty impressive, I found.

Is anyone going?

I will go together with a fellow Leica shooter, but due to other commitments we can only go on the last day.

My prediction:

S with CMOS Sensor

M-P

M 35 mm Summicron (new optics)

M 50 mm Summilux and 90 mm Summicron (only new exterior)

T-Lenses

D-Lux 7

A further surprise

Elmar

Can't we just have a holiday from gear acquisition instead?

Any evidence behind your new M lens predictions, or just wishful thinking?

Mostly whishful thinking. But there was a picture with the new T and some lenses, on which a new designed 35 mm Summucron could be seen. The 50 and 90 are ready for a relaunch.

No - time management. But not by car ;) The ICE station is next to the Messegelände I understand. :)

Yeah , Köln-Deutz/Messe (lower station) is about 250 metres from the main entrance.

In the good old days, you bought the most appropriate film for each photographic experience - color, slide, monochrome, infrared etc.

Today this has been replaced in the digital world a digital camera with an all encompassing sensor. Not optimal, I think, as I don't believe one sensor will work for all user needs.

Leica should continue to make specialist cameras for different user experiences, along the lines of the very successful Monochrom, to offer specialist Ms with the best monochrome, the best color, the best infrared etc.

This means that we may well see a continuation of the CCD line with a better M for the purists. - without video, EVF etc. and we may well see a full frame version of the T without a rangefinder, but wtih video and a better EVF.

Hey, they will sell more cameras this way, I think.

There was an excellent photographer named Brett, who years ago suggested a 4/35-75. I'd get one right away.

Not sure which Brett that would be? Anyway add to the above lens a smaller, lighter Noctilux f1.0 with a minimum focus distance of 0.70m Thanks

I would guess on a cosmetic upgrade to the M pos called MP? Delivery of the M is ex stock at present so time to create a shortage to drum up sales and Leica love a waiting list.Next september an all new M and a 1 to 2 year waiting list and so the cycle continues.I will copy and prepare to paste this in 2017 and 2020.:D
