Red Dot website problem

Not sure this is the right section but here goes, Last night I was viewing Red Dot Cameras website and spotted newly listed an item that i've been after so I clicked on it and added it to the shopping basket. Then I attempted to pay for it by card and all went well until the final click where it went through the motions then told me that the server had failed and the item had not been paid for, I tried again and got exactly the same message so I gave up, the item was still in my shopping basket showing that it unpaid.

I tried again this morning (26/07/14) and it was still showing as unpaid so I tried again.

This time it went through only for my card issuer to decline the payment and within seconds I got an automated call from my card issuer requesting that I contact the fraud department immediately.

I contacted them and after along time got through to the relevant department who informed me that my payment had been declined this morning because I had made two identical payments the night before and that they wanted to verify that it was actually me making the payments.

I explained about the previous night with the "server failure" and the fact the item is showing as unpaid in the shopping basket. I was basically told that s**t happens from time to time and that I need to contact Red Dot to get one of the payments refunded to back to my card.

 

Before anyone gets the wrong idea this is not a rant about Red Dot Cameras at all, just a heads up that there might be a few issues with making online card payments over the weekend and it's possibly worth waiting until they are open next Monday and make the payment over the phone, I fully accept that things do go wrong electronically and do not attach any blame on Red Dot at all.

I have so far spent 25 minutes on the phone to my card issuer trying to prove that I am really me and have twice paid for an item which is still showing as being unpaid so be warned.

I have left a message on Red Dots answer phone (they are not open today) and expect that it will be all cleared up on Monday but if your thinking of buying just be mindful that it might be best to wait until they are open and do it over the phone,

Ivor and Elaine Cooper, and the team at Red Dot are great folks and very trustworthy. I know you're not directing your concerns at them, but have no fear, I am certain that they'll sort it out immediately on Monday.

 

BTW, I have no connection with Red Dot, other than being a regular, satisfied, customer.

I really do not anticipate there being a problem clearing it up, just a warning not to potentially go through the hassle this weekend in the first place and wait until you can speak to a human being on Monday, cheers Rob

The Website has been completely re-done very recently with a new ordering system that requires all old customers to update their passwords etc......

 

No doubt the glitches are a result of that and will get sorted out soon.

 

As mentioned above the Coopers will be mortified and will sort you out asap.

Sorry to hear of your troubles ordering - up to now the system seems to have worked ok, but as with any new website it's only when it starts working "in anger" that you find all the glitches!

 

Even though you have left an answerphone message, may I suggest that you get in touch with us by phone or email (if you haven't already emailed us re this) on Monday morning - we open at 9:30 and we'll sort it out then.
