DMJ Posted February 28, 2014 Share #1 Posted February 28, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a small valued order on back-order with Robert White (Poole) & had an e-mail stating that as of 6pm tonight they stopped trading & taken been over by Flaghead Photographic. Hopefully not an end of an era.
Advertisement Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Hi DMJ, Take a look here Robert White changing hands, UK. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wattsy Posted February 28, 2014 Share #2 Posted February 28, 2014 I noticed they hadn't had many cameras for sale recently and were selling some lines at a discount. Must have been related to your news. It's a shame if it does mean the end of one of the few Leica dealers outside London.
honcho Posted February 28, 2014 Share #3 Posted February 28, 2014 Always a good company to deal with. I hope the staff's jobs will be safe.
250swb Posted February 28, 2014 Share #4 Posted February 28, 2014 Perhaps because people turned away when they saw exciting headline prices were ex-VAT and they were always top prices amongst Leica dealers. Steve
earleygallery Posted February 28, 2014 Share #5 Posted February 28, 2014 Did Robert White refund you for the back ordered item, or confirm that the new owners will fulfil the order?....
DMJ Posted February 28, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted February 28, 2014 Did Robert White refund you for the back ordered item, or confirm that the new owners will fulfil the order?.... They sent me an email earlier today that my back order was in & shipping, then another that the company had changed ownership as of 6pm tonight. It was an automated email that offered me the option of a refund or continue waiting; seeing as my order (Z1 hood for ZM sonnar) has already shipped.
keithlaban.co.uk Posted February 28, 2014 Share #7 Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) One of the most reliable and helpful dealerships anywhere. Where else in the UK can you call about an obscure Arca-Swiss/Ebony/Toyo... query and get great advice and service? I wish the staff and owners well. masjah Posted February 28, 2014 Share #8 Posted February 28, 2014 I've bought from them in the past (mainly just for filters etc., because I was already in a customer relationship with another Leica dealer) and I'd always found them to be extremely helpful; actually beyond the call of duty, like other Leica dealers I have encountered. Yes, their displayed prices being ex-VAT was a bit unusual, not to say idiosyncratic these days, but it was always made clear that this was the case, so no problem when you factored it in. I'd be sad to see them go if the change of ownership meant "rationalisation" (oka "closing down").
topoxforddoc Posted February 28, 2014 Share #9 Posted February 28, 2014 The change in ownership has nothing to do with the business. Sadly due to more important things in life.

Peter H Posted March 2, 2014 Share #11 Posted March 2, 2014 I had my latest delivery from them yesterday. They are one of three that I use regularly. I had been led to believe that they would continue as before, but in new hands. Is this incorrect?
Guest tanks Posted March 3, 2014 Share #12 Posted March 3, 2014 I hope they continue as before. I have bought quite a bit of stuff from them over the years, the last being a demo Monocrom with very few actuations and a 50mm f1.4.
IWC Doppel Posted March 3, 2014 Share #13 Posted March 3, 2014 Great for some of the supplementary stuff, ND filters etc. I never bought a lens as they were the only dealer that wanted full payment and a 6-9 months wait back in early 2012, which was very unreasonable IMO
IWC Doppel Posted March 21, 2014 Share #14 Posted March 21, 2014 Looking at their Leica stock, thye seem to be listing only stocked ex demo items, so it looks like they are moving away from Leica
TomB_tx Posted March 22, 2014 Share #15 Posted March 22, 2014 Back in the 1960s I worked for a small camera shop that sold Leica. When the owners had bought the business the Leica rep came by to explain that the Leica license was always with the owner, not the business, so changing owners meant the business could no longer sell Leica, unless the new owners got their own license - which they did. Of course that was a long time ago, and in the USA.
