Carsten, there's a €500 discount if you buy all 4... €4250.
I'm wondering whether these lenses are another reason for the MATE's demise. The 28/2.8, 35/2.5 and 50/2.5 give you at least a stop extra speed for only a little more. Figure 1400+1250+1000-155 = €3495, just €500 more than the MATE, good value for an extra Leica stop/stop and a half.

...I agree...CV has 12/15 that are an unbeatable proposal... and their 35-75-90 are priced hard... I can imagine the discussions which shall arise confronting AT SAME STOPS the 1,2 and 1,7 CV 35s vs. the new Leica 35 2,5... and CV 90 is named "APO"... and CV 75 seem to remember about 1/3 priced than new Leica...
Just fro chatting... the used Leitz lenses market will move in some direction... Last edited by luigi bertolotti; 03.08.2007 at 00:31. |

Nothing wrong with "slow" lenses for landscape or travel work, or even a rarely needed focal lenth. And frankly, f2.5 isn't really all that slow with a usable ISO 640 available. I say good on Leica for releasing these!

This is very good news.
If these lenses are spot-on out of the box (or velour pouch), and they aren't impossible to find once they're released, then I will have to give them some serious consideration. I currently have seven lenses that I use with my M8, and a grand total of one of 'em is a Leica. The rest are Zeiss and CV. There would have been more Leica lenses in my collection if it weren't for the fact that the several that I tried, with intent to buy, just didn't focus properly. When I buy a lens I want to stick it on the camera and use it, not send it off somewhere to be fixed. Perhaps these new lenses will fill the confidence gap.

Sorry for continuing to post... but is a VERY IMPORTANT announcement...
I read German very bad... but I seem they have not mentioned at all the UVIR issue... clearly they haven't found the way to "embed" it... shall the filter be delivered together with...? Could be fine against CVs... which need filter AND BM adapter AND 3rd party coding (for what it counts for 35 on...) |

Google translation of the page here indicates some interesting details:
metal lenscaps all-metal hoods available as accessories lenses available in sets of 2, 3, or 4 (apparently at further discount vs. lenses bought individually) |

I guess Leica is planning a true zoomer just like the W8 to replace the M8. These Summarits are just not slow enough based on Hank's standard.

6 lens elements in 4 groups. It sounds like classic Double-Gauss objectives.
The new Summarit could retire the 50mm Elmar and the 50mm Summicron. Last edited by rosuna; 03.08.2007 at 01:52. |
