Hi,
I have a used Leica m6ttl and a used Summicron 35mm f2 lens. I bought them both seperately a couple years ago and something that I initally thought was no big deal has become one. The lens hood lists slightly to the right (as you are looking at the front of the camera). I did some shots of a friend recently and realized that I was getting vignetting when shooting wide open and it finally dawned on me that it was the lens hood doing it. In all other respects the lens functions great, and I considered that it might be that the camera mount on the body is askew, but on close examination it seems that it must be the lens. So, two questions... where should I go for repairs (I live in L.A.) and about how much should i expect to pay? Thanks in advance for any help. Dwight |

This is a pretty common problem with that lens. They also tend to have the front half come unscrewed if you get too agressive with a tight filter. Since the front of the lens will have to be removed and re-adjusted I would send it to Leica. I had one that was a little less cockeyed than yours but still not straight.
The vignetting will not completely go away even without the hood. It's normal to have about 2 stops falloff at full aperture with this lens. Best wishes Dan |

take the camera to the superb repair desk at Samy's. ask for Richard. there is usually a highly qualified tech on duty, and they will give it a fair look and assessment. the guys there are fantastic.
