Anybody going to be in Hyannis in August? I'm being flown out there for some family vacation and will be there from the 16th to the 23rd. I'd like to do some photography while I'm there, but other than taking pictures of the sand I'm not sure what to do, perhaps some of the Cape Cod League... Anyhow, if anybody will be around let me know (I'm posting this in the meetings section too).
Best,

I was just down in Truro, got some amazing sunsets looking towards Provincetown. I find the Outer Cape especially photogenic with all the sand dunes. Really evokes the Cape to me.

The Cape is spectacular. Chatham and further out to P-Town. Truro has plenty of great sights, sand dunes, quaint harbor etc. Lots of Lighthouse on the cape. You must go on-line and find out as much as you can before going there. You really should make an attempt to go out to Martha's Vineyard, beautiful cliffs etc. and Nantuckett has marshes, beaches etc. thousands of tourist and shops to seperate you from your money (bring lots). Whale watches, boat tours and so on.
You could spend years photographing the Cape so try and narrow your itinerary down. The Cape is slowly being worn down by the sea and population so the way you see it this year most likely will be differant next year. The Cape can be very crowded during the summer and expensive. The restaurants there are on average, well average. best of luck and enjoy, Brian |

Thanks for the tips. I've been there before. My step-dad has a summer house there -- it's been in his family for years. He loves it there, but to be honest, it's not really my kind of place. Parts of it are amazingly beautiful, but compared to other places I've been to I find it very difficult to meet people, overpriced for my low student budget, and the few people I have met there (around my age) are either locals and not interested in tourists, or rich college frat boys who don't tend to socialize outside of their social circles. The one thing I am really looking forward to this time is that I'll have my camera with me, so I'm going to bring a handful of black and white film and try to capture some shots of the beach, the boats, and that famous ice cream place whose name I can't recall.

Ilan (can't tell from this type face how your name is spelled...)
I was up in Maine (Mt. Desert/Seal Harbor) over July 4 week and had a great solitary time. Remember that photography is a "single contributor" sport. Don't worry about hooking up, just do your own thing and enjoy the results (Oh, and take notes so that you know what to do better the next time). The only one I go shooting with is my dog, who is very patient and knows to lie down when the tripod comes out. Cheers, Ray Hull
