Default A big thank you to Leica UK

I drive past Milton Keynes every Monday so I had arranged to drop my M lenses off to be coded for use with the M8.

When I arrived after being told that the Nocti and Tri-Elmar had to go back to Solms I was asked how soon I wanted back the ones that could be coded in the UK. Naturally I replied as soon as possible. At that point the guy I was speaking to offered to do the work there and then if I was prepared to wait. Wait I did and just over half an hour later I was walking out with three coded lenses.

Turn around for the two going back to Germany is 4-5 weeks. I was also told that Leica UK haven't received any filters yet, priority will be to people who have ordered then as part of the M8 deal.

Thank you very much Leica UK!

Excellent service but something tells me that Leica UK are not going to reciprocate the "thank you". I can foresee quite a few customers over the next few weeks now 'demanding' that their lenses are coded whilst they wait.

Ian, maybe my timing was lucky, I was quite prepared to wait the 10 days that had been quoted on the phone.

I've just got back my 28mm Summicron which was sent for codingin mid January. Admittedly they have apologised for the delay and done it free of charge. As to filters, I've ordered a few and so far received one 39 and one 46 through MK. No sign yet of my two free ones - a 46 and a 67. I'm also waiting for the coding of a Macro Elmarit and its close up attachment.

Steve, did they say why the Nocti and the TE had to go back to Germany? The TE has a slightly difficult spring to install and the Nocti loses a screw hole. What were the lenses which were coded? 10 minutes to change the mount, clean the lens and check it seems time well spent.

Hi Mark, I didn't ask why those particular lenses had to go back, but I've heard in the past that all TEs have to be shipped back whatever the work. Perhaps the same is true for the Nocti.

The lenses they coded were 24mm ASPH Elmarit, 35mm ASPG Summicron and current 50mm Summicron. These probably cover 95% of what I shoot with.

As Leica UK managed a turnaround within the week for my older 28mm including postage both ways, I suspect that all the lenses that they can code are done same day.

Most of what you would save by driving to MK is the postage delay.
