Default Anyone with experience of the CM Ever-ready case

I went into my friendly neighbourhood Leica dealer today to look at the Leica Ever-ready Case (Part 18561) for my Leica CM. They don't have it in stock and will only order it if I buy it. It looks like the business on the website - does anyone have any personal experience?

i don't have any first hand experience, but i'd get it in a heartbeat if i were using the cm. i've been looking, unsuccessfully, for the leica eveready case for my minilux for years. i have the 18627 black leather case for my d2 and, while it's not in an eveready form, it is well constructed with good quality leather.

Gordon, where are you? I think I saw a case the other day in a dealer in Camberley, Surrey, England. RAP photographic. They are a Leica dealer of long standing.

Regards,

Bill

Hong Kong unfortunately!

It looks pretty good on the website though.

Default AW: Anyone with experience of the CM Ever-ready case

I have that case for my CM - got it in Germany, and I use it without the front part, since my CM without zoom doesn't really need that. The front part I only use when carrying the cam in a bike pack or trolley.
You may order it directly from Leica, seems to be no problems with that.

Greetings, Astrid

If you don't mind spending the bucks, check into the Fogg bags for this little camera. I bought one about two years, was about $149 in dollars, and not only does it function well but it looks great and is very comfortable. Jim

I have the CM but not the erc. However I did buy the custom leather case (before the erc came out) and I find it superbly well made and really quite practical. It protects the camera extremely well and is not a chore separating it from the camera.

I'd buy it while you can. Who knows what the future holds for the CM?

Looks from the Leica website that the CM Zoom is gone (although I am not terribly sure what the Leica policy on keeping only current equipment on their site is - I thought that the Digilux 2 had been discontinued but it is still on the site).

Ordered the case on Friday, pick it up on Monday. Will let people know any relevant observations.

I was told the CM Ever-ready case is no longer available from Leica. Have been searching and found one outside my country and hope it will be delivered on Monday or Thuesday. As soon it arrives I will let you know my experience.
I already have an Ever-ready case for my Minilux and must say that one is really easy to use and it makes carrying the camera with you a lot easier.

you wouldn't happen to know where another one of these ever-readies might be readily available, would you?

The Ever-ready case for a Minilux is indeed difficult to find. I found one on eBay Germany some months ago. From time to time some people sell their Minilux and case separately so you have a possibility to obtain one. Because there are not many cases like that on the market the price may be quite high. I have been lucky that I could buy it for a moderate price. It is worth a try.

The CM ever- ready case is beautifullly finished. You can leave the camera switched on (lens out) and close the cover between some pictures. It can stay on the camera when mounting on a tripod. Only when changing film, the camera needs to be taken out of the case. I really like the case. It will be a lot easier to carry the camera around compared to the handstraps wich are delivered with the camera.

I would recommend against buying the CM case. When I got my CM camera on top of my Minilux camera, I had a hard look at the CM case and decided not to bother. It is too sturdy, unhandy and frankly speaking, awfully looking (though a matter of taste). I just use the same leather pouch of the Minilux with the CM, works very well...

no, the minilux case doesn't work well (if you mean the hard case - the soft case is unpractical too). First, the CM has slightly different dimensions to the minilux, that means, the minilux case doesn't really fit. Second the on-off switcher is at the bottom of the cam, that would be difficult to handle with the case. Third the CM has the display at its back, it wouldn't be seen in the minilux case. I saw such a minilux case adapted for CM by a leather stitcher (saddler?) - but the effect to me was not very pleasing ...
The CM case however is made just for the display and switcher. And if one only takes the part with the strap it is really fine to handle.

Greetings, Astrid

well, the Minilux soft leather case works perfectly well for me. I use it only as protection when I don't actually use the camera; hence all the observations made regarding its alledged non-practicality do not matter for me. I take it out of the leather pouch when I intend to take a picture, and put it back in after I am finished. I prefer to take pictures without any kind of pouch attached to the camera at all. The soft leather pouch works well, the dimensions of the Minilux are not so different from the CM that it would no longer work for the latter.

ah, you mean the soft leather case ...
well, for me personally this is not a good solution. The CM is a ready-to-shot camera, and I like to prepare it ready to shot.
But, everyone has his own preferences, and this is ok.
