Blinzeln Re: BBC Photographer of the Year competition

"Bill", he said with tongue firmly in cheek, "Do you not have an opinion about this?"

Finally, a contest in which the photographer retains copyright!!! That in itself is a breakthrough. My local paper here in Indy claims all rights once you send that photo flying through the ether! What a rip-off!!!

Looks like fun. I'll be on the lookout for some winning shots today as I prowl the neighborhood with my dog.

Thanks.

Allan

Ah, Allan, of course I have an opinion, but I did only post the link...

I too am delighted to see a recognition of copyright - it seems the BBC may be learning their lesson at last.

...and can I suggest that if you are planning to enter you may find a camera a more useful accompaniment than your dog...

Regards,

Bill

Have you noticed which brand of camera they have used on the homepage?

Your link proved quite a distraction, Bill. Thanks for the lead.

Scroll down to the bottom of their page:

"In accordance with section 9 of the BBC's Terms of use you agree to grant to the BBC a non-exclusive licence to publish and use your photographs for non-commercial purposes."

So it's still a rights grab.

I wonder if the BBC would allow me to use their images + video + drama etc. "for non-commercial purposes", for free, for ever...

Somehow I don't think so :?)
