Default New Adobe Creative Suite Bundle?

Hi,

Does anyone know about a new bundle for Adobe Creative Suite CS2? Currently with 2.3 it includes Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, GoLive, Acrobat (8), Version Cue, Bridge and Dreamweaver (8). I hope Lightroom is not included as I just paid for it :-(

Yours

Ravi

Ravi,
I cannot speak directly to what is in the various suite of apps configured by Adobe in different packages, but Lightroom is not going to be in any of them, from what was announced recently. Lightroom will be a standalone app at this point. At some future date it may be incorporated into some suite, but not initially. The suites are designed as much for graphic artists that use and need several of the applications bundled into a less costly price than purchasing each individually. It is a good deal if you use several of the various apps.

Hi Ravi!

I have to agree with LJ. The Creative Suite product is Adobe's one-box professional web graphics/publication solution. They've been very careul to steer any discussion of Lightroom towards a whole different market segment of amateur/serious photogs. Bundling it with the others would certainly be a curious marketing tactic to say the least.

Thanks.

Allan

Hi Allan and LJ

I would be happy if Lightroom was not part of the deal as that would have been a waste of money for me...

However, my use of Photoshop is getting more and more frequent and I feel compelled to now pay for it and stop "trialling" on my different computers. The bundle deal is sufficiently good value as to be worth buying but if holding off for a few weeks helps, I may do that. I know Photoshop CS3 is in beta but I would expect that beta to last at least 9 more months, so wont wait for that release.

Ravi,
If you are able to wait for the CS3 version to come out in a few more months, that may be the best thing to do. You can also purchase/update just Photoshop, and not have to buy the entire bundle of apps. Photoshop ships with Bridge and Version Cue out of that suite. The other apps are all helpful and very good, but there are others that provide some of the same features at more reasonable costs. The suite is a very good deal however, so if you need Illustrator, InDesign, GoLive and some of the others, it is worth getting.

But LIghtroom itself will have to be purchased separately from the others. Since you just bought it, you will not be losing anything, and would have had to expend for it anyway, if it is an app that you like and use.

There are rumours are that the new Creative Suite Applications will be launched on 27 March.

I would imagine that since the purchase of Macromedia, GoLive might GoDead.

If you qualify for educational pricing, Adobe give very large discounts.

Bingo.

Get ready to do all your website publication from Dreamweaver. Even Breeze is on its last legs IMO.

Speaking of educational discounts, they are indeed huge!

CS2 for $169 anybody? Elements for $39?

Thanks.

Allan

With PS CS2 €129 and Creative Suite €215 instead of €700 or €2000 - it really is a no-brainer and if I had to pay full price, I would choose another product instead.
