Default Leica Flash 24D

I may be missing something but is the 24D able to provide bounce flash? From its design I dont think so. Am considering this Flash with the Digilux 3 which I am assuming that the 24D is compatible.

Does anyone have this flash and use it with the D3 ? Appreciate help. Thanks.

Bob

This was discussed back April 2004.
On a D2, I used a Stroboframe to bounce an SF-24D and a Nikon SC17 sync cord.
There are samples posted.

Hope this helps,

Bob,

Have you placed the order for the SF24D ???

There will be a new flash for the Digilux 3 very soon. The Digilux 3 is the Leica version of the Panasonic L1,so all the Panasonic accessories can be used on the Digilux 3 including the Panasonic TTL flash FL-36(GN 36) and the FL-50(GN 50).If you haven't placed an order for the SF 24D,the FL-50 will a good choice .You will be surpurised to see how good the FL-50 can perform.

Chris Yu

In fact the 24D flash was made by Metz. The SCA 3202-M6 will not come cheap.Yes,if you have a Metz flash with the detachable adapter ,this is a very good combination.By the way, both Leica,Panasonic and Olympus have the same flash contacts,so Olympus's FL-50 and FL36 are the same as the Panasonic FL-50 and FL-36.Here in Hong Kong Olympus flashes are more available and affordable than the Panasonic counterpart.

I don't get excited about the SF-24D. Expensive for what it is, awful grungy LCD display, fixed head, cheap plastic body. Oh, and did I say it's expensive?

Note well: The Digilux 3 is compatible with neither the SF24D nor with the SCA3502 flash foot. It has an Olympus hot shoe and requires, acording to Metz' web site a 3202 MOD5 adapter for use with the Metz flash guns. I guess you can also use whatever works on the Oly E330. Here is a quote from DPreview's preview of the L1: "The L1 has a flash hot-shoe (or 'accessory shoe') which appears to be identical that used on Olympus 'E System' digital SLR's. The L1 is compatible with existing Olympus flash lights (FL-50, FL-36, FL-20 and macro flashes) as well as what appears to be a Panasonic branded FL-50 which was shown at the launch of the camera."

You forgot to say that with the M7, it works flawlessly for direct flash. No thinking required. Now all you have to do is focus. Also works great with my M6 0.85! -Dick

I agree with Mark that this flash (I actually have the SF20) is spot on with the M7/M6TTL.
I use with the wide diffuser attachment with a piece of diffusion material inside of that. Doesn't have the longest throw but I rarely find telephoto shots with flash pleasing anyway. Perfect for closer in with wide to normal lenses. Esp great for travel because of its size. Always has given me a nice pleasing natural light mounted right on top of the camera. Of course, flash and digital is a whole 'nother beast compared to wide latititude neg film.
