Just some weeks ago I started to notice a problem in one of my R bodies. The exposure time indication in viewfinder (see image below), moves with delay with respect to the turning movement of the upper knob. This happens exactly when changing from 1/15 to 1/8. It doesn't happen in reverse direction. Does someone have experience of it?
Thanks, Fernando. |

It must be an R6 or 6.2. On the mechanical cameras, the shutter speeds displayed are linked to the shutter speed dial with a cord and I think the speed are on a ribbon. As the dial is moved the cord pulls the ribbon with the speeds on it past the window in the viewfinder. On the other end of the ribbon is a spring of sorts that takes up the tension. Something in the mechanism probably needs to be cleaned. When has the camera last had a Clean Lube Adjust (CLA)?

Guy, it is an R6.
Robert, thanks for the explanation. If it is limited to the displayed speed, not affecting the actual shutter speed, then I have no problem. I will test soon all shutter speeds. Fernando. |

this morning, I tested my R8 and had no problem ("how can one loose the 1/12s?"). Sorry, forgot to check my R6x - it was before the first cup of coffee I'm interested in this as well and I'll tell you. However, you're "lucky" this happens with 1/15 and 1/8. With shorter shutter-speeds, it might be far more difficult to distinguish both speeds with your ears. Regards Torsten

OK, it seems only a problem of the ribbon with speed values, not actual shutter speed. I've taken some shots of the same view with different aperture/speed couples and the negatives have all the same visual density. I will scan them and control the istograms but I'm already pretty sure the shutter is properly working.
Thanks all for the help, Fernando. |

I think that's it. Finally I could check it for myself. The R6.2 is fine, the far older R6, too. But there the indicated exposure times do not appear in the center of the rectangular field, but a little to the left. I believe that's simply a small misalignment. The shutter is OK. Regards Torsten
