Well after a fortnight trying to get something sensible out of either Ebay or GIFTSIX in dispute resolution, I finally managed to contact the phone number provided by Ebay as GIFTSIX contact number. You guessed it.

Looks like US$3120 plus fees down the drain.

I notice they burry bad feedback amongst probably bogus positive small items sales.

See other thread...Be warned if you are looking for new glass for your M8 on Ebay.

Hi,

I notified ebay security, that the listings seemed to be fraudulent. They (the sellers)have been at it awhile. I have notified ebay on many occasions. The same group hits Leica and Linhof.

Always a one day listing.

The seller always asked that buyers respond to an email address rather than through ebay.

(That is the first sign).

Then the seller said that the buyer could "buy it now", while the normal ebay "Buy it Now" was not offered.

Too good to be true!

ebay is a huge thing. The venue for buying and selling is almost too huge to police. Buyers should look for ANY signs..... ANYTHING unusual ....... IF IN DOUBT .... DON'T .....stay away!!

There is no evidence at all that the above statement is accurate. Indeed it is simply not true. Giftsix recent feedback indicates that many people, all of whom contact with through eBay might be possible, have been very satisfied with giftsix.

On an earlier thread I advised rob_x2004 to use Square Trade and I suggest that he now contacts compliance@squaretrade.com

to intervene on his behalf.

giftsix is based in hong kong, and they seem legit. are they supposed to be the scammers from australia?

eBay do not have another giftsix registered anywhere else in the world except the one shown below which has been trading for nearly 5 years!

A seller search reveals:

giftsix( 2223) 4 years 11 months Hong Kong About Me M2688 Photo Supplies

Thats right, Hong Kong based. Read the other thread. Most of the positive feedback is for small items. Also check the feedback of those providing the feedback.

The other thing to note is the number of withdrawn feedback.

This has been going on since the 16thDec, or thereabouts.

My only chance is that they sold me a lens they did not have and are now buying time by going silent, and I mean going silent.

I have connected to the phone number provided to me by Ebay. It is not Giftsix. This was not an elcheapo one day buy. Read the other thread.

Police have advised that they cannot refuse me making a report. But that is about as far as it will go.

Ebay will not give me contact address, but that they would give info to law enforcement bureaus. Fed and NSW Police advised that if they managed to find out who these people were, they were unlikely to be able to forward that information to me.

If you can find his contact details pubished somewhere by all means let me know. Giftsix doesnt put it about.

In short, you should be aware that a seller can set up an Ebay shopfront with uncontactable information. And a seller can easily positively bias his feedback.

Google giftsix. See the excerpt;

(9 ratings mutually withdrawn), Page 1 of 99 ... Reply by giftsix: Stated clearly no PayPal & credit card payment for this ...

The reason for this is you cant reverse the payment, you have to TT or send cash through the mail. Once it is in his account you cant get it back. His bank isnt going to tell you where he is.

Giftsix legit business? Shonky, even if I eventually see a lens. Do you think I need to go out and buy a brolly in expectation of pigs shitting from the sky?

You still have a possible remedy through Square Trade, which is not reliant on a payment provider.

I told what I did.

The giftsix listings looked to me to be fraudulent so I notified ebay security.

Defending ebay is what you are doing

This is not what you said at the outset. You refered to one day sales and odd payment arrangements. I am sure if you are right giftsix will be removed within hours. We will see!

Further, I am not defending eBay at all. I would only ask that comments posted are accurate and legally defensible.

Hmm whilst I usually find that problems with ebay sellers eventually get resolved it is a worry if they have given false information.

I would go back to e bay immediately - the seller is in breach of the e bay sellers rules for not providing correct information. File the Square Trade report and hassle e bay for more information (they could ultimately close the sellers account).

As you have their bank details have you tried to trace them through that? Their e bay page shows what looks like a retail outlet although that could be any shop they've used to lend credibility. There are also business tracing agencies/debt collectors you could try.

I just think the fact that they have been trading through e bay for so long would tend to mean that they are genuine - most scammers don't bother paying the e bay fees either!

Of course you could resort to drastic measures, bombard them with e mails and put in buy it now bids on all the items they're listing for sale.............that might prompt them to respond!!

Rob:

Email me and I will send you the contact info I have for Giftsix from when I bought some filters from them a few months back. You can email me through the link in my user icon.

Rob - why the excessively tender-footed approach? Post the details here and let everyone know who these people are.

Australian-Rob has had enough heartache over this deal that "Giftsix" deserve to be named & shamed, even if they eventually turn out to be legitimate (in the circumstances highly unlikely).

This seller looks legitimate and you should not rule out finding a solution. I personally know another eBay dealer (Poon) in Hong Kong - eBay ID etefore. He is really a first class and extremely reliable seller and we developed a very good relationship. If you like, I could ask Poon if he knows who these people are?

I did ask Poon and I am informed that GIFTSIX is a private seller hiding somewhere in HK and apparently he is known to be less than reliable. I am informed that GIFTSIX advertised prices as of late are unrealistic given Leicas price increases and that goods may be offered on eBay with less than honest intent. This is not good news, I fear, but one cannot be sure of course. I note that other Forum members also praise Poon; I have done many deals with him over the last 3 years and transactions have always been absolutely perfect.

This seller looks legitimate and ......

Which is one of the reasons I brought this to the Forum attention.

Ebays responses and channels are automated. Even it seems reporting to Ebay that Ebay provided bogus information. It will never be actioned by Ebay.

Positive feedbacks from GIFTSIX seem to be on low cost items. Easy to cover occasional stings. Perhaps that is the way they operate.

Dispute escalation might entitle me to $200 refund if this if that, whatever. So what.

Another trader, Westcoast cameras was it? was fine. I dealt with them. Then someone in here spread teh news the business turned wheels up.

I am letting people know what is happening, whether the explanatin is that he is running full blown scam, is staffed incredibly incompetently and I mean incredibly, he is in financial difficulties, or he is ruthlessly dishonest, gets your money in then someday if he can get the product sends it along.

Giftsix does not show his contact info anywhere on line that I have been able to find. If anyone has contact details I would appreciate them.

I am trying through square trade, I have no idea yet what that might turn up.

Thanks.

oh, and for those not aware, another member Gerard is, or was when I last mailed him, having the same problem with GIFTSIX not sending a payed for NOCTILUX, and he was given a bogus tracking number that HKPost had no record of. I do not know where he is at with it now.

Quote "Giftsix does not show his contact info anywhere on line that I have been able to find. If anyone has contact details I would appreciate them."

In addition to pursuing a claim through Square Trade you might also simply ask a previous buyer of giftsix ,via the "Contact Member" facility of eBay, if more information can be provided about giftsix. It is possible that packaging material accompanying an item will reveal something about their business. If you study the completed sales history of giftsix it is plain that sales of expensive equipment does not happen everyday. Indeed, giftsix must be paying a lot of money to eBay for listing unsold items. However, if you trawl through the completed sales you will find the odd lens has been sold from time to time and it is conceivable that some kind of documentation would have been provided in order to satisfy the buyer with regard to warranty etc.

You may need to write to a few buyers in order to get a reply but it will be worthwhile if you discover the address etc of giftsix.
