MD-2 Metered?

Leica MD-2 from Camerapedia

The camera had an automatic exposure mode with shutter speed control aided by TTL metering.

And here: on our own forum the side view seems to indicate a TTL metering lens, but no 'auto' setting on the shutter dial. Am I correct that each article is incorrect?

It appears that nobody cares.

To the best of my knowledge, camerapedia and l-cameraforums/leica-forum are wrong.

The MD-2 has no meter, regardless of the site 'facts'.

The diagram in the Wiki article shows an eyepiece, and the metering cell for the metered bodies other than the M5 is at the bottom not at the top. So I'm guessing some one has lifted a cut through of an M6 TTl or M7 and that the metering cell shown is for the TTL flash metering.

Jaap told me about the incorrect MD-2 picture, yesterday. After searching the web for a "real" MD-2, here was my response to him:

Hi Jaap,

Thanks for spotting the ?M6? Here is a picture of a camera labeled MD-2 150473657304?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Photographica_Film&hash=item2308edcbd8 (complete with box) but I don't see a difference. The serial number 1526170 (listed in a M4-P group). The first camera is 1481536 (in M4-2 group) so neither camera is in a listed MD-2 group but both look identical (to me). http://cgi.ebay.at/Absolute-Raritat-...item2308edcbd8

Are both cameras bogus? updated with new tops or dials? That the serial numbers are not in the MD-2 list is not surprising to me (having looked at many Leica items out of sequence).

Tim
