I don't personally (with my M6), amongst those that do a lot seem to favour Artisan & Artists' products: Artisan & Artist*

I use one most of the time and especially when I'm shooting weddings. Mine is a thin syntheic material one that came with some hi tech product. I wouldn't hestitate to use thin black climbers cord at a push and especially if you want to try before you buy.

I use mine more as a safety strap in case my grip fails rather than as regular support. Slips on and off the wrist easily and makes it really easy to pack the camera in a case, or in a pocket. I can post a pic if need be, but see what kind of other responses you get.

Luigi does a nice leather one, but I might find it too bulky.

Bounced my Digilux 1 off a concrete sidewalk a few years ago. Since then, have sworn off wrist straps. Glad it wasn't my MP.

I use wrist straps a lot.

Made my own from 15mm webbing sold at camping/climbing stores. Combine it with a good quality clip and you have something which is v.strong and reliable.

Basically you fold the webbing into a figure-eight shape, with a small loop for the clip and a big loop just large enough for your hand to slip through. Now machine-sew the point between the two loops a few times and... done.

I use, and love, the Lutz Konerman "Sling" with my D2. As safe as a wrist strap, but far more relaxed in use, and less prone to get snagged when you put the camera away somewhere.

You can see it in my avatar to the left (where I don´t have my fingers tucked into it); it must be the world´s shortest camera strap....

My only problem is, my Nikon D200 is just too heavy to carry that way. Another reason to use a Leica

I believe in wrist straps and the like. I have a SLING on my M7 and a beautifully-crafted leather strap from Gordon Coale on my IIIc. My LC-1 wears a Leica wrist strap that came as part of a set with the now-discontinued Pouch-M. Not for long though, 'cos it's destined for the 'Bay at the weekend. Only my recently-acquired RD-1 lives on a Leica neoprene neck strap.

Regards,

Bill

You might like to look at the high quality leather wrist straps on Luigi Crescenzi's website at Leicatime Luigi Crescenzi : leica cameras leica compur mp elmar 250 reporter leicavit.

FWIW Luigi makes a large array of custom eveready leather cases for Leica cameras. I have one for my D2 that I use constantly and when my M8 eventually arrives I'm likely to get one for it too.

HTH,
Pete.

I'm using one of Luigi's wrist straps on my MP - this arrangement works best for me. Very comfortable, no scratching of the camera, and minimal extra stuff to be tucked away in a bag.
Cheers,
Mike

I have both the fancy leather wrist straps and the Optech neoprene wrist straps

see: Cam & Cam QD Strap | Demo Page

By far I prefer the Optech one. It is soft, pliable, easily tightened so it cannot fall off your wrist. Of course it a basically a safety lanyard like all wrist straps, but it easily holds the M7 if it drops out of your hand.

Use for safety only. One lug is not strong enough to carry the camera.

I use a rawhide shoe lace. Circle your hand around the camera a few times to tighten.
