Could someone comment on the focus throw and weight (i mean how heavy the focus ring feels while turning) of these 2 lenses.

At the moment i have the 90mm, but i was thinking of changing it to a 75mm, as i often need the 0.7m focus distance and a smaller, lighter and wider lens (going for a 35-75 kit).

So please, somebody who has/has tried both of these summicron lenses leave a comment about the focusing ring.

Hi, I don't know if this helps, compared my f2 asph 75mm with my non asph f2 90mm not much in it, equally smooth but both need a steady firm push.. ..... such relative phrases..... and twiddled.... discovered not much between them, nor my more ancient f2.8 tele 90mm, the lightest to focus was my new 90mm f4, aslo really smooth was my 85 F2 ltm Nikon, but thats another storey....... To sum up nothing really between the 75mm f2 and the 90mm f2, though a newer one may be different, or I didn't understand the question, Cheers. Adam

The 75 Summicron focus throw is about 1/2 that of the 90.

60° from infinity to 1 meter vs. 120° (the 75 focuses to .7 meters in about 95°)

IMHO that is almost TOO short, given the precision needed to nail focus close-in and at f/2. A hair-trigger - breath hard and the focus can jump enough to matter.

The 75 'cron focus feel is a bit less smooth than the 90, since it is working harder both in speed, and in having to move a floating element as well as the overall lens. Not really stiffer or heavier (in fact, rather light) but I feel a slight drag now and then.

I kind of wish Leica had designed the 75 'cron as a scaled-down 90 APO rather than scaling up the 50 ASPH optics with the FE - but it sure performs nice close-up, and is right-sized as a short portrait tele. And like you, I make good use of the tight framing at .7 meters.

Adam, you answered my question partly, thanks, however, the thing i wanted to hear more is about the throw

That is just what i was looking for, now i just need a buyer for my 90mm and i'm off to pick up the 75...

I couldn't test it out because there is no dealer in my country, the dealer i'm buying from is like 400km away from me, and even he doesn't stock these items.

Thank you both guys, thread can be closed.
