Default Walter P. Chrysler Would Be Proud

The Chrysler building had been the tallest building in the world until a few short months later the Empire State Building eclipsed it for height, if not style. But both are art deco masterpieces. The Chrysler is at 42nd and 43rd Streets, between Lexington and 3rd Avenues, and the Empire State Building is on 5th Avenue between 33rd and 34th Streets, so to see them together you must be north or south of them, and up high. This is at 7:30 this morning from the roof over the 35th floor where our friends Carrie and Rudy live at 54th and 2nd Avenue. I’ll return in the cooler weather for a crisper shot.

Ivan -

Thank you. I thought this would sink to obscurity without comment.

Stuart

A very nice shot indeed. Very interesting to see the buildings in situ against the surrounding skyline. Nice warm colours.

Stuart, Very nice picture. Seems to me that height is less important than style. The Chrysler building is iconic because it is beautiful. The Empire State is interesting, but part of the crowd of many interesting buildings in Manhattan. I`ll bet you agree - the Chrysler has caught your eye before.

Cheers and thanks,

Michael

Michael -

Thank you, and you can tell that I agree by noticing that about 10% of the nearly 600 photos on my site's New York photo gallery are of the exterior and interior of the Chrysler Building. I only have about 20 of the Empire State.
