this classic bit of folk art was created from 18 years labor by John Milkovisch who lived here with his wife and did this as a hobby
he did not like mowing his lawn and enjoyed beer flattened aluminum cans act as siding and the curtains serve to keep the home cool 100165300.oeYjrjJA.jpg just what his neighbors in this middle class neighborhood thought of his handiwork is not clear, but this home has become a favorite in Houston and after he & his wife died, the home was purchased by the Orange Show Foundation and recently restored by volunteers from that organization you can see others along with a larger version & shooting information here Houston Photo Gallery by Artichoke Vinagrette at pbase.com there is more information about John & his house here The Beer Can House : Home hope you enjoy |

and for your effort to add "pop"
I took this at dusk and prefer the sky of the original ...I may rework this one a bit, but the I like the yellow gold light at dusk for this one the builder was quite a character, but apparently his neighbors liked him ...the neighborhood was simple middle class tract housing commonly found here, but this is rapidly becoming yuppified as can be seen by the townhouses that now flank it |
