Default Re: A Take on Composition

Well seen.

I've often wondered about how to deal with vertically stacked compositional elements. Where does one place them in the pictorial space? The rule of thirds does not always work out. Dead center is effective here because you have the arrow head created by the roof line, the lamp is jogged a little right to break up the linear rigidity, and the softness of the rose provides a generative foundation. I can't decide whether the composition is helped or hindered by the grittiness; it would interesting to see a smoother version. B/W was a wise choice.

Thanks for the lesson.

Stephen
