Default reflections on Enron

this is my entry in the DPR Leica challenge Reflections & Shadows and a favorite subject of mine ...the Antioch Baptist Church antedates the behemoths skyscrapers that surround it & I find its plain dignity an ironic counterpoint to the sullied glitz of the former Enron building behind it

I had never considered doing a BW version of this subject before, but for this photograph, I think BW works best ...I have a link to a color rendering and a larger version of this along with shooting information & more from this wonderful church here M8 Photo Gallery by Artichoke Vinagrette at pbase.com
comments & critiques welcome

Very well seen and extremely effective as black and white. The irony is not lost once the buildings have been identified.

the real irony is that this church was built on ground given to build a church for newly emancipated slaves in a fairly inhospitable corner of Houston that became VERY prime real estate
it is a favorite photographic subject of mine

clips too much of the church. And, without text identification it could be many places.

Default thanks for commenting, likea

I have some of the entire building in my Houston gallery
here is one that was stitched from 3 photographs taken with the 15 mm Heliar

with my favorite being a stitch of six photographs taken with the Fujifilm S3 using a 24 mm Nikkor here
Antioch Missionary Baptist Church 07 photo - Artichoke Vinagrette photos at pbase.com
various power/telephone lines and trees make this church a challenge to photograph
I purposely used a more narrow DOF in the BW I first posted to emphasize the reflections
I am pleased with the result & if anything I think I left a bit too much of the church, though you may disagree
I do not understand your statement that this could be many places ...I do not believe a photograph has to have identifying information in it, nor do I think there are many churches situated like this with the somewhat ironic banner across their top

Default AW: reflections on Enron

Arthur,
I really like your choice of framing for the original B&W. I find it very effective (even if I didn't know the story).
