Is anyone responsible for 'maintaining' this section - or is it entirely up to the advertisers to remove their entry?

I don`t know, but you have a point. I have on numerous occasions asked sellers about advertised equipment which, it turns out, has been sold a long time ago. Sellers should remove their ads when the item is sold.

...maybe the ads should be for a fixed term, say 30 days at which point they should elapse unless they are actively continued.....

On the photo.net classifieds you can select the length of your "for sale" posting and the forum software takes care of the removal on the date you specify.

I am a moderator, not an administrator, so do not have the means to adjust lengths of adverts or even delete old ones. The administrator and moderators cannot read every post, so it's best to drop admin a PM if you need specific advice or have a functionality issue.

At present, it is down to the individual posting the advert to remove it when appropriate. I will "report" this thread so that Andreas is alerted to this issue.

Better late than never...

I found the reason why old ads were not deleted - I had to activate a special script that cleans up once every day.

Now you'll find only current ads in the Classifieds...

Is there a way one can renew an add when they expire?

I just got a special PM saying my ad had been up for 30 days and would go unless I clicked on a link to renew. So something seems to be happening ok.

Now that the script is running you should receive an email before the ad runs out that allows you to renew the ad without further costs.
