Default Suggestion for digital forum

In light of Leica's possible announcement of new digital products at Photokina - and beyond - what about a new sub-forum for the digital forum entitled "Digital SLR forum" (or similar) and at the same time renaming the "Leica M8 forum" as "Digital Rangefinder forum"?

I'm not concerned about the actual names - "Leica Digital Rangefinder forum" would be just as good - but I expect there to be a lot of activity following Photokina (even more than there is now) and it seems sensible to give the sub-forums names that aren't model specific.

Just a thought, feel free to ignore <grin>.

Sounds like a description of the thoughts of the author, given the quantity & quality of the images produced by users of the DMR/R8/R9 system as well as the multitude of users of R glass on Canon & Olympus digital bodies. Being cavalier is one thing, but this drivel is uncalled for.

True, but I'm thinking that it will be useful _after_ the camera has been announced/released.

Let's be honest, much of the posts here are speculation and opinion rather than fact - and none the worse for that.

Does that just leave the Panasonic twins in the Digital Forum then, or can they be recognised with their own sub-folder ?

For some reason, I feel guilty posting pics taken with R lenses on Canon bodies. Is that anal of me, or do we need another .....

imants ?

Rolo

ps which is speculation ?

it is a conclusion, opinion, or theory reached by conjecture as well as reasoning based on inconclusive evidence; conjecture or supposition.

How about calling it (if there is one) simply 'Digital R Forum'. Nice and simple, and if the camera happens - I hope it is too !!!!

We already have a critical mass with the DMR & R glass for both digital & film. Let's get this baby off the ground.

Redefining it as dRF and dSLR forums might open it up to other equipment a little as well - the R-D1 or R lenses on Canon bodies are good examples.

we don't have separate film areas for M and R, so why for digital?

The M8 section was set up when speculation and then interest reached such a state that then "Digital" forum was getting swamped with M8 threads. Others, including DMR owners, and compact shooters, couldn't get a word in.

The same could happen with the R10

It would be nice if we could have only two forums here, I have some humble suggestions:

1. A blue blood Leica forum
2. A Leica Knockoffs forum

or

1. A photographers' forum;
2. A non-photographers' forum.

or

1. A RTFM forum
2. A wishlist forum

I am with Steve on this issue. He and Andy Barton two of the most level headed Leica users to post on this forum and there posts are usually thoughtful and insightful.

Well said, Richard.

Andy's right - the M8 forum was born in a hurry when the M8 posts flooded out the digital forum and the wood couldn't be seen for the trees. It makes sense to me to be ahead of the game, if possible and create an R-digital forum in advance of any announcement. It would still be applicable to the DMR, and to the use of R lenses on Canon and 4/3 bodies.

It strikes me that it will help us to separate the M'ates from the R'souls...

Regards,

Bill
