Default Suggestion for new category

I don't know if this has been suggested before but I wonder if there would be any justification for a catergory where posters can leave pictures that they actually want members to post-process for them?

For example, you might want other members to have a got at cropping, desaturation, colour balancing etc. In other words - take my picture and suggest how to make it better by recomposing or re-processing.

It could lead to all sorts of interesting ideas and be genuinely helpful.

I think this could be a good idea, one of the reasons I stopped posting pics is because somebody took it upon themselves to 'improve' and repost one of my photos without the courtesy of asking first. Although mods are surely best done on the original image/scan rather than on the low res jpeg usually posted.

I don't have a problem with others working and reposting my photo's. Usually it is an improvement anyway . If not, I feel I'm very well able to explain why the change doesn't work in a counterpost.

I have absolutely no objection to others trying to improve my pictures. That is the only way to learn - and it's free. Of course it would be better to have the original file but a jpeg will give adequate indication of the directions to go for a 'change' in the image.

Just to re-emphasise, the reason why I would advocate a new category is that on occasion I would like to encourage others to try alternative processing of my pictures. As the responders have suggested there is a great opportunity to benefit from others advice and ideas.

I have no issues with people working on my images. On another forum, we have just such a area. I go even a step further, and will provide (from my own hosting platform) a good-size JPG, the PSD files with all layers (if applicable) and the RAW file.

The issue is not whether you care, or don't care, about other's messing with your photographs....as I understand the opening to this thread. The issue is: do you think that a new category should be established where a person would voluntarily subject a photograph to the whims of others. I think it is a fine idea. Wilfredo has already plowed some of this ground in the "other" section.

I wouldn't post an image if I had any problems with people SUGGESTING changes to it, thats how we all learn to do better, but it is my picture after all, and perhaps I might not agree that what is suggested is an improvement, polite constructive discussion will help everyone to learn. But if mods are done and posted, the person offering the criticism is assuming that they KNOW better, not merely that they have a different point of view, that IMHO is a bit arrogant, and impolite. I have seen lots of people make suggestions, and after agreement, publish here the results of the mods, but the point is it was by agreement.
And in the end, a version of one of my pictures which I don't agree with is published for all to see and I can do nothing about it

Well, yes, exactly. So, in effect with this new category we'd be saying that it is against etiquete to meddle with a published picture in any other category. Not that I intended it in the original post but it would make it clear that it was the only place where it is acceptable to modify posts.

Anyhoo, I guess any final decision on the proposal is down to Andreas?

No need to create a new category, just add to your signature line the words "it is ok to edit my pictures".... that's all.

We had this discussion about whether or not people shouod be free to edit others' shots a couple of years ago, and didn't come to a conclusion then, either.

To be honest, there is a lot less of this these days than there used to be.

The only practical option is to do as Ed says, although in reverse (IMHO)

i.e. "It is NOT OK to play with my photos"

Everyone has their own ideas and there's no right or wrong. I posted a photo a while back, I'd taken just before sunset and there was a lovely hue to the light. Of course someone decided I had a bad colour cast or poor scanning and managed to PP it to make it appear as though it was taken at 12 noon. Quite impressive but so very wrong

A separate catagory would be confusing IMO. I think its better to post in the appropriate photo forum for the subject and invite comments or interpretations.

Default AW: Suggestion for new category

No need to create a new category.

And it is not ok to edit images from other photographer.

For me it is worst to steal images - copyright is worldwide.
