neat new logo. seems to make explicit what was always implicit (?) that this forum is mostly an M thing powered by M-ophiles. nowt wrong with Ds and Rs. but the rf Ms - and the wonderful glass of course - still seem to be the beating heart of the Leica brand. shame that the transition from analogue to digital M has been such a bumpy ride.
(have just lost use of the setting ring on my M8. Calumet Liverpool was great last time. got replacement for out of box camera with filthy sensor within 3 weeks while I kept camera to use. this time, I suspect, I'll have to part with my M8 for uncertain length of time and use my M6s instead. what a pain)

This forum is for everyone who use Leica cameras and/or lenses. As soon as it becomes an "M-only" forum, I will no longer participate. And, yes, I do have an M.

It's an Olympus Trip isn't it?
![]() Difficult - it was an outline of an SLR it could be any SLR. The M or rather rangefinder is more recognisable. I certainly have never had the impression that this is 'really' an M forum. I would hazard a guess that there are possibly more M/rangefinder users than SLR's or other Leica cameras though. Last edited by earleygallery : 12/02/07 at 03:50 PM. |

I think that you will find that the logo depicts a Digilux 2.
![]() If this becomes an M only forum, I'm out of here too and, yes, I do have one lying about somewhere in the loft. Whilst most of the talking about cameras does seem to come from the M fraternity I believe that majority of the photographs posted are from the digital side of the house. ![]() |

Seems to me that there's plenty of LTM and R traffic (probably Digilux as well - I just don't look) that will stop the forum becoming M dominated........provided people stay around of course.......

Without using the "L" word, I would imagine it's actually quite difficult to think of something iconic to use as a logo.
It seems to me that the camera looks enough like an M for it to be obvious what it is, but enough not like an M to avoid getting sued...

Sorry, my opinion is that it isn't fine, simply: graphically, apart the "red dot" idea, it hasn't anything original and catching... anyway... not so important an issue... the forum has nothing to sell to anyone, and neither it must beacame a sort of worlwide recognible organization...

Well the red dot's in the wrong place for a start. Sorry Andreas, but this doesn't work for me. My personal preference would be to have the ident as a plain red dot.

I agree with Steve. As you know, I was never that keen on the idea of Leica dis-investing itself of its in-house forum website and changing the logo is yet another degree of separation from things leica. That shouldn't be taken as a failure to recognise that this is the way things have to be, or in any way deprocating the achievement and hard work that Andreas and others have put into the new site but maybe we'll have a box brownie up there next....

Dear all,
thanks for the compliments and the suggestions! I fixed the button issue - now it's "Reply" again... Developing a new logo is difficult, especially as it has to show we are a Leica forum without saying "Leica" and showing brand elements - including the red dot as stand alone element. Using a product was in my opinion the only way to keep a close connection to Leica. And if we had to use ONE camera to symbolize Leica, it has to be a Leica M in my eyes as it stands for the brand values, the history and the future of brand and company. Using one product also means NOT showing other products. If we'd include a R too this would only have shifted the problem: Why no D-cams? Including them too (please don't try to imagine a logo with three cameras in it) the collectors and slide show experts would start to moan. OK, include a projector and a Ur-Leica too. "Is this only about products?". Nope, Oskar has to be in it too ![]() If I have some free time, perhaps I create some new alternative logos. Perhaps they have to be animated? Give me some time... Best regards Andreas
