blkdout Posted July 10, 2014 Share #1 Posted July 10, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have posted 3 times in this forum. I understand now that I could not post links to ebay, but this information was only relayed to me after the 2nd posting was deleted. I followed the rules I posted pictures of the item I was questioning and again this morning. What did I find? My post was deleted again!!!!! No Explaination, just gone!!! All I want is help. Is that too much to ask? At least an explanation of why my posts are being deleted??

Washington Posted July 10, 2014 Share #3 Posted July 10, 2014 I'm just wondering too why are posts to eBay forbidden when posts to other sources are OK? I have been dealing with eBay for well over ten years and I have found some remarkable bargains and yet to have had any trouble at all.

erl Posted July 11, 2014 Share #7 Posted July 11, 2014 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) blkdout, you have established zero credibility on the forum so far. Your first post has a link to an eBay sale as your centrepiece and then you wonder why you are being censored. I'm sorry, but our past experience is that posts like yours are thinly disguised advertising links to a sale you are mounting in 'that place'. Now we may be wrong, it can happen, but the laws of probability don't agree with that scenario. Do you seriously want 'us' to vet an eBay sale for you? Sorry, but that is your responsibility, not ours. We could be wrong and you would blame us. OTOH, if you had established some credibility over time here, some of us would venture an opinion, maybe. So to answer the title of your thread, 'not much in reality'. Edited July 11, 2014 by erl

I only know what my present is.That being said I searched for a leica forum to get an opinion on a fairly large purchase. What I got was. Posts being deleted without any explanation, not once but twice. I can't speak for others who tried to somehow trick you, but the reality is, THERE IS something wrong you and your little snobby friends that "thanked" you. I dont spend 10-15K dollars on a camera every day. I was refered to this forum by a friend who told me, this was the place to find knowledgable collectors. What I found was people too worried about, shameless promotion? I was looking for simple opinions. Credibility over time? So because you hold resentment over some people in the past. I need to prove to you that I'm, what? derserving of your knowledge? Get over yourself.
gyoung Posted July 11, 2014 Share #9 Posted July 11, 2014 If you ask for help I'm sure you'll get it. If however you simply link to an ebay sale (and I haven't seen your deleted posts) then our hard pressed VOLUNTARY administrators can be forgiven for simply treating it as spam/attempted advertising. Brenton C Posted July 11, 2014 Share #10 Posted July 11, 2014 Hi BlackOut, Frustrating as your initial experience has been, bottom line is "their forum, their rules." You've asked, and been given a reasoned explanation. Reasoned but, to you, unreasonable. Again, not your house so not your rules. Apparently, you stepped on a problem issue, and been subject to the remedy thats been chosen for the forum, but let me suggest you ask for the info you seek, instead of jumping to a conclusion about bad attitudes hereabouts. Sure there's the occasional crusty reaction once in a while here, as everywhere these days, but my experience is that this is among the most helpful and courteous net groups I've encountered. Knowledge and experience here is vast, and offered up with uncommon generosity. So let me say welcome, and let's hear about this camera!
luigi bertolotti Posted July 11, 2014 Share #11 Posted July 11, 2014 (edited) Hum Blkdout... just to be clear and friendly... if you wish to promote the sale of items of yours, that you want to sell, there is a Buy & Sell sections just made for this; if, on the contrary, you wish to have an opinion on the price of some item you saw offered on ebay , you can simply link it, asking something like "what do you think about" ? We do not make evaluations in strict terms (it's out of the mission of the Forum, and a serious evaluation, anyway, can't be made on the basis of pictures) , but opinions of the above kind, expecially if they involve considerations on history of Leica items, originality, details, real rarity etc. are normally given here, and are part of the everyday life of our forum(*) ; simply, everything must be clear and neat... believe me, there is nothing "wrong" in us. (*) I do remember discussions on "ebayed" items like Black M3, Chrome M4-2, "Luftwaffen" IIIa & similar... Washington Posted July 13, 2014 Share #12 Posted July 13, 2014 Darn it all, I can sorta understand the fellow's frustration having gotten off to a bad start myself. But, the fact of the matter is you have to accept what the moderators do because it's their job.... to moderate. So, that's it...... period.

ironringer Posted July 13, 2014 Share #14 Posted July 13, 2014 Extending from Mr. Bertolotti's post, a more "generic" way to ask about the quaility or originality (not the value) of an item on an auction site, is to ask for an education from the knowledgeable collectors: "What attributes and points of interest are important when evaluating an XXX camera?" That way we all learn about what factors and features are important, and what questions to ask a seller. Perhaps an indirect question about value could be "Have any of these cameras in YYY condition sold for more than $$$ from reputable dealers?" I agree that this Forum is very friendly and helpful, and have already learned much about the screwmount era from several knowledgeable contributors. I very much enjoy using my IIIf and last week purchased a IIIg to further experience the pleasures of old, well-made cameras and accessories.
Washington Posted July 14, 2014 Share #15 Posted July 14, 2014 Well, y'know, there are so many ways to view ownership of a Leica. Me, I bought my M-9 as I had loved using my old double-stroke M-3..... it had build quality you could feel and was as rugged as Hell. I already told y'all the story of having to use it swung from the strap to konk a knife attacker in Saigon.... didn't hurt the camera a bit. But I guess my point here is that everyone views their Leica their own way, and there is no right or wrong to any of it.
erl Posted July 14, 2014 Share #16 Posted July 14, 2014 You were lucky. I did the same thing, swinging from a wrist strap, in Barcelona. The M6 was OK except that the RF went out of whack. The attacker ran off and I had trouble focussing afterward.

It was apparently less than edifying for other members here also. However, I can find no fault with the deleting of your posts by the moderators, all things considered. People can sometimes be jackasses on internet forums; that is a given. It is unfortunately the nature of internet forums. JMHO but if there is a jackass in the equation, it is not erl or which ever moderator(s) deleted your posts. Washington Posted July 15, 2014 Share #18 Posted July 15, 2014 I think the build quality of the M-3 was Leica’s best…. but the camera was quite expensive to build…. very complex but excellent range finder. They began to change things starting with the M-2 on for cost.
