I've been a member of this forum and participated in it for some time and I have to say that on the whole it is the most friendly and helpful forum that I've found on the 'net.
There are personalities whom I've encountered here who, without fail, are willing to freely share their experiences, offer sound advice, provide direction and inject a degree of welcome levity to threads and I respect and value their opinions. You know who you are. Numerous threads broaden to encompass multiple issues and commonly there is a pleasant degree of good humour and bonhomie but from time to time we are gently reminded to stay on-topic. Would the Administrators consider starting a coffee shop style forum that caters for off-topic discussion where members could drop-in for a break to find out about the issue of the day, share an amusing anecdote or perhaps seek help on an unrelated matter? Naturally, forum rules and etiquette should apply so as to ensure that the Coffee Shop is a pleasant place for all to visit. I visualise it as an informal 'breakout' area that many of us are familiar with at seminars and exhibitions- a place to go to recharge your batteries or catch up with acquaintances before returning to the topical discussion forums (or should that be "fora"?). What do you think? Pete.

Pete, I suggested something similar when a few of us were testing the new forum prior to it going live. Nothing seems to have come of it. Personally I think it would be a good idea.

I would support this idea, with the proviso that no-one is allowed to mention the M8, a subject of which I am heartily sick.
Cheers, Pete.

Thanks for the support, Steve.
I can understand if the idea is not adopted because, after all, this is a Leica forum but a coffee shop style forum might attract new members through googling of non-Leica related topics. I shall just have to drink my virtual coffee and discuss these topics amongst myself. (Anyway, Pete, did you hear about the latest Darwin Award when a man in New York strapped a bright red cone to ... )

Seems a sensible compromise, Pete, because that's what the digital forum is for. Thanks for your and John's support.

Imants,
I'd have thought it would be an ideal foil for your splendidly acerbic wit and superbly cryptic observations, and it seems to me that you would only bother to get yourself banned for life if you felt that it was a badge of honour worth having! LOL. (Wasn't it a certain G.Marx who quipped that he'd never join a club that would accept him as a member?) Azzo, thanks for your support.

OKOKOK...
Let's make a test, OK? Please suggest a good name and a good description of this subforum and send it via PM to me. Important for me is, to keep each forum to one clear topic and not to spread discussions over too much boards. Andreas |

It's a very good idea, indeed.
As you can see I prefer Cafe Tinto... ![]()

A moderator would be drinking the stout from a larger glass than that one
![]() This is a great idea, but will need to be kept "in hand". Seriously off-topic discussions can quickly go completely pear-shaped. I vote "yes", but like Pete, I would like any discussion relating to cars to be banned. ![]() PS - double espresso for me, please.

I wish to complain; this coffee-forum has already gone right off topic and started discussing strong drink, the consumption of which distresses me greatly.
In protest I am posting a non-Leica car shot of an M8. Pete.

Pete,
Aplogies in advance for my higorance but I assume that the M8 has its engine in the front: so what is the purpose of the cowling (air-intake?) in front of the rear wheel? Pete.
