That can be a good idea or a very bad one.
Leica will not code a lens that has something noticeably wrong, damage, with it without first contacting you with a estimate to fix what is wrong with it. If you don't OK the repairs it will be sent back to you un-coded (If the repairs aren't done Leica has no way of checking the lens for proper function with the new coded bayonet if there is something wrong with it).
That can be expensive but may be needed, and you will get a one year warranty on the lens, because there are some things that Leica can do that other repair centers can not do. Like replacing damaged parts that other repair centers don't have access to.

I suggest you first send it to either DAG or Krauter to see what they can do with it and then send it to Leica if they can't fix it and or have it just coded if they can fix it.
