The M8 should do you proud for many, many years. But don't assume it's the last camera you will ever own - you may decide to add to the collection one day.
If you are just starting out a digi camera will do more for your photo skills than you can imagine. Nothing beats instant feedback for developing compositional skills and exposure awareness and just plain better shooting.
