Steve - it wasn't really the 'loudness' in itself that I was questioning - it was the entire character of the sound. My M7 does not sound in any way similar to the recorded sound.

As I said, the camera I have here makes a really gentle 'thlock' type of sound - very low tone, very quiet when held directly against my ear. I do think the perceptual 'loudness' of a sound can nevertheless be stated - even independently of how a sound is recorded or played-back.

Anyway, I'm sorry - I won't pursue this, it seems difficult to make any statement without feeling one is being jumped on or taught some kind of lesson here, these days.
All I meant was that - having listened carefully to the recorded sounds - my M7 has a totally different sound, the character of which I would say was 'much softer'.
