My rule of thumb was to use the film made in the country I was visiting.

I figured the Germans knew how Germany was supposed to look on film, so I used Agfachrome there.

When I used Ferrania in Italy, I couldn't understand why the Italians thought their country should look that way. They were probably too busy considering how the country felt emotionally to concern themselves with how it looked.

I couldn't figure exactly where to use GAF 500 ASA. It was more amazing for being that fast than for the warm, grainy images it produced. Luckily, you can't prove that today because the dyes have all faded from the GAF slides.

But I did notice that the filmmakers of France, Germany, UK, Italy all tended to choose Kodak stock for their productions.
