I favour the grip, although I may give the thumbs up a try as well. I like to be able to reach into my camera bag and firmly get a hold on the grip to pull the camera out, to avoid dropping. I don't know if the thumbs up would provide the same assistance when removing the camera from a bag.

I don't have the Luigi case but I do have a Luigi strap and it is an excellent item. I did not go for the case because of the dumb bottom plate design of the camera.
