Re: Digilux 3 vs Digilux 2 vs Canon 400d
Hi, and welcome to this forum.
As you have researched the D2 and D3, by now you should understand that both of these cameras are re-badged Panasonic LC1 and L1 respectively. Despite many conflicting forum discussions about Leica changed the Firmware.(..blah-blah) , they are essentially the same cameras.
I own both a D2 and L1 (actually... to my embarrassment 4 Leica cameras), and have written much on them in this forum, so will not repeat it.
I enjoy using both and at this stage have no intentions of selling either.
What I will say with confidence......When out and about, doing general shooting of people, sport and wildlife, I find that I get a higher percentage of "great shots" on the L1, and a much lower percentage on the D2.
Why...? I feel that the D2 is a "slower to capture" camera. It's absolutely brilliant when you have time on your side. Many people can produce a brilliant shot for the above scenarios I described, however in a fixed time period, I get more great shots per minute with the L1.
So why do I keep the D2,...... it's a much smaller and lighter, and totally silent shooter, and for really important occasions, is my backup to the L1.
Finally with 'careful' research about a seller, Ebay 'can be" a safe place to buy a Leica (I did). However make sure you understand the current "D2-sensor failure & repair" situation that is widely discussed on this forum.
