You are quite right, the supplied lens hood reverses for storage and has a plastic cap which fits with the hood reversed. The cap has two cut outs for the release tabs of the lens hood. This cap does not fit if you don't have the hood reversed. However, if you have the lens on the camera, it is a bit of a performance to take off the cap, release the hood, reverse and refit it, every time you want to take a photo. I wanted a cap I could leave on the lens with the hood in its using position. Thanks to Jimmy's information and a friend, who was willing to swap hoods, it looks as if that is now on its way to being accomplished.
