Thank-you José! I worked VERY hard on this blasted tree! I have both medium format AND Digi2 pictures of it. I have posted them (D2 shots) here before.
I can tell you (specifically) what the problem was: on the left side of the male's "thing" there is a little piece of the tree's flesh that was very white. If this thing wasn't shot at a specific time of day and in a very specific kind of light, it would give the appearance that the whites are blown out.
This darned tree was "demonically difficult".
Essentially, the tree was saying: if you want it... earn it. I spent three days on this tree.
It's the strangest thing I've ever seen. This is the only tree in this entire forest that was illuminated this way. It just sort of... *exploded* with a special luminance, as if there were a bunch of "rock concert pin spots" on it. Out of an entire forest of trees, there was just_this_one_spot. The refelection off the human-like skin of this Eucalyptus tree (after it had dropped all of its bark) illuminated all of the other trees in this forest.
Really strange.
