Thank you gentlemen for your replies which have completely answered my question. I made an error in saying the lens was a 35/F2; it's actually a 50/F2. Yes it is a single stroke.

The serial number of the camera is 963 706 and the lens number is 1541260.
According to a list of M3 serial numbers that I looked up, numbers starting from 963 001 had no more ear leg - which I presume means the eye for attaching a strap changed to the little round ones.
