I have one. I've shot it a lot with film as my fast 50. I've tested it on the M8, but no "real photos" yet. It has a very slight backwards focus shift, nothing major, less than my 35/1.4 asph which I usually can ignore in practical shooting.
The main thing that some people don't like about the Nokton is that nearby out of focus highlights can look a little weird, and the bokeh is wiry.
No, you don't need to code 50mm and longer lenses, unless you want the lens data in your EXIF file.
