To my mind, this lens is an unusual choice for indoor work, unless you have at least 2 meters of shooting distance and your children are not moving while you shoot. In addition, the f/2.8 may be slow for indoor situations unless you plan to use a flash. It will also be difficult to verify focussing indoors unless the light levels are relatively high.
This lens takes getting used to for hand-held work outdoors, let alone indoors for the reasons cited another author above. It is magnificent on a tripod and has become my primary scenic lens for telephoto shooting.
You might post more detail about your indoor shooting situation so that folks replying can give you better information. But I'd guess that the f/2 or f/1.4 prime lenses would be better candidates for indoor work.
