Cindy and Alan--Thanks for responding. You were both lucky with your failures. No matter how many times I take out and replace my batteries, the camera won't come back.

I'm going to try one more M8--a completely new kit. If that one fails, there will be a whole bunch of Leica M equipment for sale somewhere.
