Marquinius Posted October 17, 2011 Share #261 Posted October 17, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ehrm ... Creyghton ... I'm sure he does great landscapes, but he is not really an "inspirational B&W photographer", is he? I may be confused, but as I see it, he doesn't belong on the list. But I'm open for some education
Advertisement Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 Hi Marquinius, Take a look here Inspirational Photographers- B&W. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
JAS Posted October 17, 2011 Share #262 Posted October 17, 2011 So many great photographers. Here's a few more not mentioned: Danny Lyon, and Lewis Hines. http://www.judithsteiner.com/
molaikop Posted November 11, 2011 Share #263 Posted November 11, 2011 I don't know if already mentioned here but what about Balazs Gardi, winner in the news category of The World Press Photo 2008. He said in earlier interviews that he uses one Leica M6 with a single 35mm lens for his serious projects and nothing else. He also takes amazing shots using an iPhone for one of his projects called Basetrack in Afghanistan.
Marquinius Posted November 11, 2011 Share #264 Posted November 11, 2011 These Afghanistan photos are awesome without a doubt. And although what I saw was done with an iPhone, I'm sure for this thread nobody is complaining that it is all Leica. And I think that project is awesome. But the list is about B&W photographers. And these super photos are color. Or am I missing something?
molaikop Posted November 11, 2011 Share #265 Posted November 11, 2011 Yes, I think you are missing quite a lot.

Marquinius Posted November 12, 2011 Share #267 Posted November 12, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Okay Okay, don't get mad at me, I began by saying I think it is GREAT photography. I somehow missed all the good B&W stuff So I'll add him to the list (which I really should update one of these days). So much to do. Even more on his Flickr stream. Tietje Posted November 22, 2011 Share #268 Posted November 22, 2011 Bert Hardy and Don McCullin. There's probably a few more but these two always come to mind first
Marquinius Posted November 22, 2011 Share #269 Posted November 22, 2011 Bert Hardy and Don McCullin. There's probably a few more but these two always come to mind first Sometimes I feel stupid. Bert Hardy. Pffff, now there's some photography. Never seen anything by him, now hooked. "It never seemed like work," said Bert Hardy. "Photography was always good fun." Marquinius Posted November 29, 2011 Share #271 Posted November 29, 2011 I'll have to check Manos and Crie. The others, well ... I think they were on about the first ten (if not five) positions of the list. Keep smiling.

Marquinius Posted January 10, 2012 Share #274 Posted January 10, 2012 Ah, more and more, keep it coming. I'm sure it will take some time before someone says "we're done, no more to be found"
Guest Ornello Posted March 7, 2012 Share #275 Posted March 7, 2012 I have recently purchased books by the following truly inspirational Black and White photographers. Please add your favourites to this thread Wynn Bullock Barry Thornton Ruth Bernhard Edward Weston Pat Booth Jean Loup Sieff In all cases copies of these books are available at incredibly reasonable prices through Amazon by typing in the photographers name I don't really look at photographers' work all that much. So much of it is the same. I do like Willi Ronis and Salgado, but I don't consider anyone's work an 'inspiration' as such. I'm past that stage in life. xalo Posted June 7, 2012 Share #276 Posted June 7, 2012 (edited) Didn't see him on the (last?) list yet, and for me one of those who inspire well beyond their photographs, through craft and life (or what's known about it): Kenro Izu Alexander Edited June 7, 2012 by xalo
