I don't own the first Leica bag I ever bought.

You try kit until you find something which works for you. The stuff George makes is harder to get, but the quality is the same as the Leica bodies and you don't need to use the body strap lugs which can, over time, develop light leaks.

My cameras stay in bags until I'm shooting with them. The M5 mainly stays out of harm's way if you use the side straps. Can't comment on the cases. Never used a "never-ready" case...

My M7 really needs the half case for protection and for grip when I use it with larger lenses. The MP is in a pouch when I travel with one camera and often wears only a wrist strap because it's relatively compact with only a 35/2 mounted, which is more or less welded on. :-)
