    • In the history of humanity, all conflicts and wars have always been reported, whether through stories, texts, engravings, paintings, photographs, films, television reports and now with new technologies such as telephones. laptops and the limitless power of internet networks. Military engravings on Leicas have always appealed to collectors and historians. When I bought one of them I always tried to trace its history and journey, a bit like a police investigator. Which led me at one time to devote an article to these German military Leicas and as I did not have reliable documents for certain verifications I often called on Luigi Cane, author of numerous works on this subject. For the Leicas used during the Second World War by the German armies here is a short article concerning them that I wrote. It's also a duty to remember for our elders and our children, so that we don't forget. "I used a google translator french/ English". LEITZ AND THE PROPAGANDA OF NAZI GERMANY On the left, the Adler propaganda newspaper of 01/12/1943 with cover its founder Hermann Göring presented as the paladin of the Führer celebrates 01/13/1943. On the right, the propaganda newspaper Signal N°10 from 1944, photo taken by P.K Erwin Bass of the Signal Service Auxiliary use “point launchers” to provide information on a giant light map of the route followed by Allied bombers. We cannot dissociate the Leica brand and its cameras from the Second World War and its involvement despite Leitz's anti-Nazi sentiments. The three elements which will compose and serve Nazi propaganda across Europe will be photography, cinema and the press with its newspapers "Signal" for the Wehrmacht and "Adler" for the Luftwaffe. The latter being the work of General Hermann Göring, Minister of Air. The Nazi leaders were quick to create propaganda units (Propaganda Kompanien) or P.K. in each army corps. In 1942 there were no less than 15,000 men divided between the Luftwaffe, the Wehrmacht, and the Kriegsmarine. and the Waffen SS. The photographers making up these units are recruited based on their civilian professional experience. The vast majority of cameras assigned to these propaganda units will be identified by engravings, color of specific coatings. The official cameras will be the Leicas IIIa, b, c, as well as the Robot brand motorized cameras capable of taking 4 to 5 shots in one second. Others will be mounted on aircraft coupled with machine guns. More confidential, there are some Contax IIIs in service and probably some Kine Exaktas. Rommel, a famous German general from the Second World War, used a Leica IIIc. What he certainly didn't know was that Leitz had largely contributed to saving hundreds of Jews from Nazi barbarism. Leicas for military use are found in many countries during and after the Second World War. An interesting theme for collectors, unfortunately the rarity of these cameras requires a certain investment. Many specific engraving cameras are listed in official "30 Jahre Leica Historica" records. You can see the date of distribution of the camera and the delivery slip number. But other cameras and objectives could also have been distributed or requisitioned and engraved within certain army corps or special services. Main engravings on Leica of the German armies 2nd war worldwide: -Luftwaffen-Eingentum (2 styles of engravings) for the Luftwaffe, army air. (K on the hood and on one of the curtains with FI and number on the hood). We find the letter K poached with white paint on one of the curtains. The Leicas is gray in color, these cameras could be used in very low temperatures (-50°C), on board aircraft or in operation during the Russian winter in 1944. The word in German "Kugellager" designates the ball bearings on which the shutter axes are mounted, the mechanical parts are treated with special lubricants and adapted to extreme conditions -W.H or Heer for the Wehrmacht, Army. (K on the hood or on one of the curtains). -Eagle, Reischsadler/stawiska for the Navy and M with or without number. -Artl for artillery or gunner. Of course accessories such as cases, lenses or viewfinders will bear the same engravings. But on the battlefield and thanks to certain stories and photographs we know that the photographers of the propaganda units also worked with their personal camera which will also be true for other soldiers of combat units other than the P.K. This being said, control and censorship were omnipresent, especially in units such as the Waffen SS. The types of cameras most used for personal purposes were Leicas, Contax and Ikonta. What happened to these cameras? A large part was destroyed, the other stolen, confiscated from prisoners, capture of buildings or battlefield. Allied soldiers mainly Americans or Russians will be the main actors of these war prizes considered by them as souvenirs of their campaign. The latter, upon returning to their country, did not hesitate sometimes to erase by filing or camouflage the signs of belonging of these materials to the army of the Third Reich. It is therefore not uncommon to see one of these cameras on the market from time to time. Archives Pierre Dubois

    • https://mononoawarefilm.com/film-stock It is not widely known, but the long lived Kodak Color Negative Vision 3 is still very affordable. The 50D is probably the most fine grained color negative with extreme fine grain and pleasing color, rated at ISO 50 for day light.  The 250D has essentially the same color pallete but slightly more grainy, rated at ISO 250 for day light. The 200T and 500T are rated at ISO200 and 500 for T-light.  All can be used in the cross lightling conditions, but with ISO reduced to about 2/3 of the label. They are processed in ECN2 chemical, not C41. So you are likely to process at home. The chemical per role is about $2 (instead $1.5 for C41) (check out B&H).  The main difference in terms of handling is the intial step to remove the remjet. Most people scared away by this, but in fact it is very easy. For details, check out google.  I found the best way to remove the remjet cleanly is (after remjet removal, before the rest of steps) to remove the film off the spooler out of the processing drum or tank, finger squeeze any remjet residue, then reload to the spooler to continue the process.
    • beim TTL Blitzen verwende ich immer manuelle Kameraeinstellungen. Mehrere Automatiken parallel, geht oft schief.
